Based on the breakthrough Akimbo workshop pioneered by legendary author Seth Godin, The Practice will help you get unstuck and find the courage to make and share creative work. Godin insists that writer’s block is a myth, that consistency is far more important than authenticity, and that experiencing the imposter syndrome is a sign that you’re a well-adjusted human. Most of all, he shows you what it takes to turn your passion from a private distraction to a productive contribution, the one you’ve been seeking to share all along.
In Principles, Ray Dalio shares what he’s learned over the course of his remarkable career. He argues that life, management, economics, and investing can all be systemized into rules and understood like machines. The book’s hundreds of practical lessons, which are built around his cornerstones of “radical truth” and “radical transparency,” include Dalio laying out the most effective ways for individuals and organizations to make decisions, approach challenges, and build strong teams.
The book Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies is the story of Tara’s path to re-parenting herself and becoming a “ninja of self-love.” Through simple, daily rituals, Tara transformed her mind, body, and relationships, and shows how to

Badass Habits is a eureka-sparking, easy-to-digest look at how our habits make us who we are, from the measly moments that happen in private to the resolutions we loudly broadcast (and, erm, often don’t keep) on social media. Habit busting and building goes way beyond becoming a dedicated flosser or never showing up late again—our habits reveal our unmet desires, the gaps in our boundaries, our level of self-awareness, and our unconscious beliefs and fears.
One of the books you need to read more than once! It’s really that good.

1. Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead
Brown explains how vulnerability is both the core of difficult emotions like fear, grief, and disappointment, and the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, empathy, innovation, and creativity. She writes: “When we shut ourselves off from vulnerability, we distance ourselves from the experiences that bring purpose and meaning to our lives.”
I enjoyed this book so much I have bought it as a gift for others. This is a must-read for anyone looking to be the best version of themself. It teaches you that it’s ok to be vulnerable and share your feelings. Growing up feeling that others did not care to hear about my feelings this was very powerful for me. It’s an everyday process of learning how to express what I am feeling with thought and NOT from a place of being defensive. The need to truly be heard for who you are is more important than the amount of time you spend with others in my opinion.
We all feel fear. Yet we are often taught to ignore it, overcome it, push past it. But to what benefit? This is the essential question that guides Kristen Ulmer’s remarkable exploration of our most misunderstood emotion in The Art of Fear.
Once recognized as the best extreme skier in the world (an honor she held for twelve years), Ulmer knows fear well. In this conversation-changing book, she argues that fear is not here to cause us problems—and that in fact, the only true issue we face with fear is our misguided reaction to it (not the fear itself).
An amazing book that I first heard about on Gabby Reece’s podcast episode with Kristen Ulmer. Having raised two athletes it’s always fascinating to hear about drive and discipline from the perspective of elite athletes. Such an excellent read. The exercises are perfect to help with your personal growth. Fear can hold my hand as I go through life but will not stop me from moving forward. I will be reading this a second time because it was truly that good!
This is a book for working women and mothers who are ready to release the culturally inherited belief that their worth is equal to their productivity, and instead create a personal and professional life that’s based on presence, meaning, and joy. As opposed to focusing on “fitting it all in,” time management, and leaning in, as so many books geared at ambitious women do, this book embraces the notion that through doing less women can have–and be–more.
Kate Northrup describes how by actually doing less you can do more. This book is perfect especially for those who multi-task (as I have always done). She teaches a formula to be more efficient and make the most of your day. She also explains how women run on a MONTHLY cycle which is based on your menstruation NOT weekly like men. Game changer for understanding those moods of the month!
The most important step is the first one. Dive into Chip Gaines’ personal playbook and start learning how to succeed in business—and in life.
The funny and talented Chip Gaines is well known as a TV star, renovation expert, bestselling author, husband to Joanna, and father of five in Waco, Texas. But long before the world took notice, Chip was a serial entrepreneur who was always ready for the next challenge, even if it didn’t quite work out as planned.
Readers will learn:
- How to work towards success—and how to determine what that looks like
- The power of living in a way that rejects fear
- How to embrace small acts of courage and be bold to go all-in
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this book but I have to say it was very inspirational. I have always been a big fan of Fixer Upper. We even visited Magnolia Market in Waco, Texas when Bella was visiting Baylor University. I truly admire Chip and Joanna Gaines and read both of their books now. One thing that is clear from these two is they live in the present moment, are intensional, take risks, and do not live in fear. I aspire to be like them!
THREE WORDS THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE when you know that you are enough everyone around you will know that you are enough too. Your life will be so different and so much better when you can resonate your enoughness at a level that positively impacts your career, your relationships, and your happiness levels. You can use the power of stating that you are enough, that you always have been and always will be, to achieve success in every key area of your life. When you say it, think it, and believe it, and make it an automatic and regular part of your life you can expect to see wonderful improvements in your relationships, in your career, and in how you feel about yourself.
This book taught me to really be aware of the stories I tell myself and what I think in my own head. We must remember that our words become our reality so it is very important that we are positive, encouraging, supportive, and kind to ourselves. We must always remember “I am Enough” regardless of our beliefs, religion, career, or anything else.
One of the books you need to know you are enough despite what you have been told your entire life.
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Gabrielle Bernstein comes a clear, proactive, step-by-step process to release the beliefs that hold you back from living a better life.
This six-step practice offers many promises. Petty resentments will disappear, compassion will replace attack, the energy of resistance will transform into freedom and you’ll feel more peace and happiness than you’ve ever known. I can testify to these results because I’ve lived them. I’ve never felt more freedom and joy than I have when writing and practicing these steps.
This was a game-changer for me. For several weeks I kept a journal of why I was judging a person and what from my past was triggering me. It was very powerful because as they say when you judge or dislike another person it’s because you see something in them you want or dislike about yourself. I know I didn’t think it was true either until I did the exercises in the book. Try it and let me know how it goes.
One of the books you need to stop judging others. It is said we judge because the person has something we want. Be careful my friends.

I have always looked to Suzy Orman as an authority for investing and money in general. Since I am 45 I took this book out from the library to start preparing for my future. Five years will go by quickly so better to start early that not at all!
One of the books you need to get your finances in shape.
THE CASHFLOW QUADRANT will reveal why some people work less, earn more, pay less in taxes, and feel more financially secure than others. It is simply a matter of knowing which quadrant to work from and when.
This book was so good that my husband even listened to audiobook! This will change the way you think about taxes, teach you ways to maximize your investments and earnings. The board game is definitely on the Christmas List this year! Move over Monopoly there is a new game in town lol.
Based on extensive research and one-on-one interviews with more than 50 of the most legendary financial experts in the world—from Carl Icahn and Warren Buffett, to Ray Dalio and Steve Forbes—Tony Robbins has created a simple 7-step blueprint that anyone can use for financial freedom.
This audiobook is LONG. Like 12 hours long but it is packed full of information about how to diversify your investments from the leaders in the financial industry. It explains the strategies of investing for the long term and the importance of diversifying. That we want low-cost index funds as opposed to high-cost mutual funds(where I was invested in the past). Now I make my own decisions and educate myself on what’s best for my future. You know what they say… Applied Knowledge Is Power!
One of the books you need to become financially free!
Through acceptance, surrender, and a commitment to her continually evolving spiritual path, New York Times best-selling author and international speaker Gabrielle Bernstein has been transforming her fear into faith. Her stories and universal lessons provide a framework for releasing the blocks to what everyone most longs for: happiness, security, and clear direction. These lessons can help us relinquish the need to control in order to relax into a sense of certainty and freedom–to stop chasing life and truly live.
Understanding that there is a power guiding us that is bigger than ourselves was an area of spiritual growth for me. This has nothing to do with religion but more the knowledge that we are all being guided and must follow our OWN intuition. There is no cookie-cutter way of being despite what many people think. We all have the right to be guided in the direction that is best for us NOT because someone else is claiming it to be the “truth”. Know that what is the “truth” for you does not have to be my “truth”. I get to decide the same way you made that decision for yourself.
One of the books you need so you know there is a higher power guiding you always.
11. Dodging Energy Vampires: An Empath’s Guide to Evading Relationships That Drain You and Restoring Your Health and Power
Highly sensitive people—or empaths—see life through the eyes of compassion and caring. They were born that way. As a result, they carry a tremendous amount of inner light. But they’re also the favored prey of “vampires” who feed off empaths’ energy and disrupt their lives on every level—physical, emotional, and financial.
If you have draining people in your life “energy vampires” this is for YOU! It is by the mother of Kate Northrup the author of the Do Less book. I would not say I am highly sensitive but I do look at life through rose-colored glasses and have felt the negative effect of energy vampires.
Since I am all about protecting my energy these days this book was super helpful in learning how to set boundaries. This is something I work on daily. It is all about controlling your reactions to others. The only this we can change is ourselves and there is no need to defend, justify, or be compared.
One of the books you need to cute out the energy vampires in your life.
12. Living with the Monks: What Turning Off My Phone Taught Me about Happiness, Gratitude, and Focus
Equal parts memoir and road map to living a less stressful and more vibrant life, bestselling author Jesse Itzler offers an illuminating, entertaining, and unexpected trip for anyone looking to feel calmer and more controlled in our crazy, hectic world.
Entrepreneur, endurance athlete, and father of four Jesse Itzler only knows one speed: Full Blast. But when he felt like the world around him was getting too hectic, he didn’t take a vacation or get a massage. Instead, Jesse moved into a monastery for a self-imposed time-out. In Living with the Monks, the follow-up to his New York Times bestselling Living with a SEAL, Jesse takes us on a spiritual journey like no other.
This one I am almost done with. I discovered Jesse after following Sara Blakely who is married to Jesse. The two of them are so inspirational and down to earth. There are so many lessons throughout this book in the power of presence. I am still working on this but this book was definitely a game-changer in my growth. One of the most powerful things Jesse said is you can read all about The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People but if you don’t take action on what you read you won’t see a change. This is so true my friends!
Here is a clip of Sara Blakely and Jesse Itzler in an interview. Love them both!
13. Excuses Begone!
In Excuses Begone! Dr. Wayne W. Dyer reveals how to change lifelong, self-defeating thinking patterns that prevent you from living at the highest levels of success, happiness, and health. You may know what to think but find it terribly difficult to change thinking habits that have been with you since childhood. This business of changing habituated thinking patterns is really the business of eliminating the same old tired excuses.
If you are one to have an excuse for why you can’t do something OR if you have a family FULL of limiting beliefs this book is so helpful. It will basically teach you that your limiting beliefs are just stories in your head that are not even true. SO if you basically stop thinking about what could go wrong and take action the world is full of endless possibilities. Sometimes we are just scared to believe in ourselves. Very powerful book. Side Note Sara Blakely listened to Wayne Dyer over and over again. She even memorized his one series “How to be a no-limit person” all 10 cassette tapes front and back.
One of the books you need so you remember your only limit is yourself.
This Leading Edge work by Esther and Jerry Hicks, who present The Teachings of Abraham, will help you understand every relationship you are currently involved in as well as every relationship you have ever experienced.
This book uncovers a myriad of false premises that are at the heart of every uncomfortable relationship issue, and guides you to a clear understanding of the powerful creative Vortex that has already assembled the relationships that you have desired. Abraham will show you how to enter that Vortex, where you will rendezvous with everything and everyone you have been looking for.
This is another awesome book especially for anyone familiar with the secret. It speaks about the lesson that you attract what you focus on. Self-development is a daily practice. It does not come from reading one book or hearing one inspirational talk. It is not about throwing up quotes but is about actually putting in the hard work to be the best version of yourself. I am definetly a work in progress but I am putting the work in.
One of the books you need to stay focused on your authentic self and purpose.
If you’re tired of the lies and sick of the false promises, take a look at this—it’s the simplest, most straightforward game plan for completely making over your money habits. And it’s based on results, not pie-in-the-sky fantasies. With The Total Money Makeover: Classic Edition, you’ll be able to:
- Design a sure-fire plan for paying off all debt—meaning cars, houses, everything
- Recognize the 10 most dangerous money myths (these will kill you)
- Secure a big, fat nest egg for emergencies and retirement!
The method this book teaches is perfect for anyone looking to get to the next level with their finances. My family has always called me cheap and frugal which is so far from the truth. Clearly, they don’t know me. If I see a beautiful piece of furniture, lighting, or faucet I will pay top dollar. After trying to find it for the best price. The funny thing I learned while working in a furniture store is that those who have the money ask and expect a deal. In contrast, those who don’t have it or worked hard to get it almost see overpaying as a status that they’ve arrived. It was an eye-opening experience working there.
First I listened to the audiobook of this and then I took out the book from the library to read. This book was so good I got the free versions but bought my son the physical book. The other this I learn as I work on my limiting beliefs is that unfortunately many have been passed down to my kids. At this point, all I can do is let them know it’s something I may have passed to them but I can’t fix it for them My window of influencing their conscious self was up till seven years old so I’m way past that!
The Fearless Money Mindset provides you with seven principles and tools to eliminate any fears that you may have around money. It doesn’t matter what your current income is, the person who has a 7 figure salary can still be living below their potential.
This book serves as a guide for you to operate at your best and highest self. It covers the area of your finances, business, and life. Many people have more fear of being broke, rather than faith in having abundance. This shift is what you need to go from lack to more than enough.
I LOVED this book so much I pan to read it again. It was not cheap but I purchased it for $25 and it was well worth it. I first discovered Arian Simone on the Marie Forleo podcast. It was such an amazing inspirational interview that I purchased the book right after. Trust me… watch the video and read the book. You will be so glad you did!
One of the books you need to break through your money stories that hold you back.
The underlying message from most of these books is all about MINDSET and mastering your THOUGHTS.
Again I am working on this DAILY because it is so easy to slip back into your old way of thinking. My hope is that with my growth and improvement I can inspire and influence my kids to be their best selves. If I can help others in the process that is just a bonus!
Hope this was helpful to you!
Have an awesome day full of Unicorns & Rainbows!
