19 Best Neutral Pillows That’ll Look Good In Any Style Home
Looking for the best neutral pillows to update your space in 2024? Check out my favorites that’ll make an awesome addition to your home!
One of the easiest ways to update your home is by changing your pillows. Neutral throw pillows are a great option because they go with any decor. If you choose contemporary decorative pillows with texture and pattern your neutral pillows will NOT be boring!
When it comes to designing with neutrals you should mix different size pillows. For example, adding a larger pillow that is 23″x 23″ behind two smaller 20″x 20″ pillows will add balance and interest. Lumbar pillows placed in front of two square pillows are another trick designers love to use.
Whether you’re looking for a quick update or completely starting from scratch this roundup will give you plenty of inspiration.
This post is all about Neutral Pillows to update your home.

The Citizenry Neutral Throw Pillow Combinations
When it comes to neutral color throw pillows The Citizenry is a great option. I love the design, texture, and pattern play of the options above. Even though they are neutral they all have special features that make them unique, artful, and unexpected.
The abstract designs and color block are perfect for the modern contemporary home. They also have that California eclectic vibe that is trending these days.
The philosophy of The Citizenry is the following (from their website):
We believe our homes should be reflections of the journeys we take. Our personal spaces deserve designs with a soul, a story, and a purpose. It’s why we travel the world to develop our exclusive collections of home goods. Country by country, we partner with master artisans, blending our modern style with their time-tested techniques.
By personally traveling to each country and using only local materials, we establish sustainable relationships with our artisans. From there, we sell directly to you online–there is no middleman. This is how we’re able to offer handmade goods, crafted with the highest quality materials, at more reasonable prices than traditional luxury boutiques.
By buying your neutral throw pillows from this retailer you are supporting the artisans, designers, and dreamers behind the products.
Arhaus Neutral Pillow Combinations
Arhaus is another favorite resource as you can tell from the seven awesome pillows I chose to highlight above. They are all in that neutral color palette but each one is unique and special.
There is a variety of fabrics and materials such as fur, hide, jute, cotton, velvet, and wool. These pillows will go perfectly whether your style is transitional, boho, modern, and more!
To keep the costs down many of the Arhaus pillows feature solid plain backs. The beauty of modern pillow covers is that you can just replace the outer shell when you want a new look. It also makes storing all the covers easier since they have the fill removed.
Arhaus is one of my favorite vendors in the home decor and furniture category. They were founded in 1986 and believe “Furniture and decor should be sustainably sourced, lovingly made, and built to last.” Arhaus partners with artisans around the world to create beautiful, heirloom-quality pieces that will last for generations.

They have a commitment to the earth through their Green Initiative. The company uses sustainably sourced, reclaimed, and recycled materials as much as possible.

CB2 Neutral Pillows
CB2 may be known for modern, cool, and stylish furniture but their home decor is stunning as well.
Its mission statement is the following:
“We curate inspiration for the home, connecting the creative work of artisans and designers to people and places around the world.”
CB2
They are known for high-quality products, exclusive designs, and timeless style.
As you can see from the neutral throw pillow options above each one is unique and makes a statement. From the sheepskin pattern, the fur round shape, and the hide squares each would be a focal point on your sofa.
There are many more options from each of the next three retailers but I just selected a few neutral pillows. This will give you an idea of the look and feel you can create from each one.

Little Design Co. Neutral Pillows
Little Design Co is a go-to for me. The Kelly Wearstler abstract pillows from my neutral living room are from there and I love them! They also have a version of the banded pillows as well but I had ours custom-made to go through that process.
Side note on the custom pillows. While it is always awesome to have the choice of creating your own pillows from scratch it’s more costly.
There are just so many freaking options that in my opinion, it’s not necessary. Unless of course you are working with a designer and they are making custom drapery panels, a sofa, and chairs then yes it will help coordinate everything together.
OK, back to Little Design Co. this vendor is perfect for any style of home. You can order samples of the fabrics before placing your order to make sure all your colors play nicely together. There is a limited selection of styles that are staples and those are available in multiple color options.
They literally have every color imaginable. Little Design Co. also has designer prints and fabrics so you can create that elevated designer looks without the high price point.
Shop the site by color, pattern, or style to create a beautiful design in your home. Another thing to point out is other than ottomans Little Design Co. focuses on ALL things pillows.
They truly are experts in this category since they have niched down to just one thing.
Anthropologie Neutral Pillows
Anthropologie has one of the clearest customer descriptions I have ever seen. They spell out right on the website who their ideal client avatar is. I have pulled up their “story” for the classes I teach at the college as an example of a great “about us” page.
If you are wondering what it is I will put a few lines here but check out the full description on the Anthropologie site.
The Anthropologie customer is described as being:
“A creative-minded woman, who wants to look like herself, not the masses. She has a sense of adventure about what she wears, and although fashion is important to her, she is too busy enjoying life to be governed by the latest trends.”

Anthropologie
Did that speak to you? I know it speaks to me which is why I love their collection of products.
The pillows you will find at Anthro are full of style and personality. They have pillows that are neutral full of pattern, texture, and unique style details. They also have pillows that are vibrant, colorful, and full of personality.
No matter the look you are after at this current stage of your decorating process they have something for you.

Woven Nook Tassel Pillows
The next vendor is another favorite of mine. I had chosen so many neutral pillows already that by the time I got to this one I just chose two but trust me there are so many more neutral pillow covers on the site.
Woven Nook Neutral Pillow Covers
Woven Nook is a fabulous option for better-priced neutral pillows. This company was established in 2017 after they got tired of searching for cute, trendy, and affordable pillows but could not find them.
Also tired of spending $100 per pillow they decided to solve this problem. The founders traveled the world in search of amazing textiles, designs, artisans, and inspiration to bring directly to their customers.
Check out this video for the inspiration and story behind the brand.
The look of Woven Nook is perfect for any style home especially the California Eclectic, Modern, and Boho styles just to name a few.
This company does not just focus on pillows so be sure to check out their bedding, poufs, rugs, curtains and so much more!
More Neutral Throw Pillow Resources
I had to stop somewhere or this would have been one long-ass post. That said let me share some other retailers that also have a fabulous collection of contemporary decorative pillows for your home.
These are at a variety of price points because by now you know I’m all about mixing high and low. Pretty is pretty no matter the price point and the purpose of this blog is to share all the cool trendy options that are available.
This way you can express your style and personality in your home. Set yourself apart from the masses and be different.
It’s so much better to be the unicorn in the field of horses.

Just saying, my friends!
OK so here is that list of other awesome retailers to check out for all your pillow needs.
Types of Pillow Inserts
Lastly, let’s discuss a few tips and tricks on the pillow insert topic. When it comes to pillow inserts the general recommendation is to use inserts that are 2″ larger all around than your finished pillow size.
For example, if you have an 18×18 pillow cover, you’ll want to use a 20×20 insert. This will ensure that your pillow looks plump and luxurious. If the insert is too small, the pillow cover will look saggy.
- The exceptions to this rule:
- pillows smaller than 18×18 and most lumbars- these work best with inserts that are 1″ larger (instead of 2″ larger)
- extra large pillows (24×24 and larger)- these will also work well with inserts that are 3″ to 4″ larger than the cover
Pro Tip: If you want to “karate chop” your pillows get Feather down pillow fillers.
1. Down:
Pros: Down is soft, natural, lightweight, and insulating. Down pillows provide protection and warmth. It is best for stomach sleepers because it is cushiony. Down pillows can last longer than synthetic alternatives.
Cons: Down pillows are associated with some allergies. They can be expensive and difficult to clean. Also, they need fluffing to keep the loft (it is the height of the pillow measured when it is resting on a flat surface).
2. Down Alternative (Polyfill):
Pros: Down alternative pillows are affordable, soft, and lightweight and can retain their shape. These pillows are naturally hypoallergenic so they’re good for those who have down allergies. They can be easily cleaned.
Cons: It becomes difficult to mimic the insulation (warmth feeling) like the down.
3. Feathers:
Pros: Feather pillows are soft, lightweight, firm, and structured. They can hold their shape. They are commonly used for pillowfills because they are strong and can spring back when under pressure. The micro feathers are very curly which gives them the ability to support the weight.
Cons: Feather pillows may feel hot when sleeping. They flatten easily so they need fluffing. Allergies can be associated with them. Sometimes, the quills may come out from the pillowcase and irritate.
There are other options but these are the most common.
And that’s a wrap!
I hope this gave you some inspiration and ideas for your next interior design project.
