Update: Project “Get Bella’s Ass To Hawai’i” is T-2 days away!!
So we are taking a lot of deep breaths as we try not to forget anything important.
We have gone to the doctor, eye, and allergy appointments in the past few days.
We (or I) have called the insurance company to make sure we have out-of-network and hospital coverage of up to $90,000 for athletic-related injuries.
I know had it not been for the athletic department requirements I would not have thought to check that either!
We picked up the allergy shot vials so Bella can bring those with her (in an insulated lunch bag) and found a doctor to administer the shots for a fee.
Naturally, the Hawai’i allergy doctor does not take our NY insurance so we will pay a new patient fee of $200 and then $60 per visit for the shot since Bella gets three.
I called Emblem Health and we can submit an out-of-network claim to get reimbursed for those monthly visits.
There are so many things to think of during this process but hopefully, by documenting it others will have some useful tips for their journey.
For this post, I have put together Bella’s ultimate college packing list all of which we are going to attempt to get into a large suitcase, large duffel bag, carry-on duffel, and backpack.
The two checked bags can NOT be over 50 lbs so I ordered a scale and keep checking them as they are packed.
I have had to move things back and forth and for the record, denim is NOT light.
This is Bella’s Ultimate College Packing List that I typed up in a pretty document which you can download here.

Update: So we actually lost our internet (optimum) from the storm and I was not able to finish this blog post from Tuesday until today!
Yes! I had serious withdrawals and did not realize how much of my lifeline depends on the internet.
Here are all the bags Bella will be taking on the flight to Hawai’i.
College Packing Essentials
In the large suitcase we have packed most of her clothes and it weighs 49.2lbs.
The school backpack is packed in the suitcase and has a padded area to protect her laptop.
I’m ok with her trashing the large suitcase after she unpacks. That will depend on how much room she has. That suitcase has seen its day.
The large duffel bag has her bedding, denim items, towels, and toiletries.
That bag is currently 48.8 lbs.
For the two check bags, we bought TSA approved locks to keep everything safe.
The carry on medium duffel bag has Bella’s blanket, pillow, large yeti, and electronics.
This is technically over the 22″ length max by about 2″ but we won’t fill the side pockets.
When the sides are pushed in we are at about 20″ (fingers crossed for no issue with that).
The large backpack will hold the laptop, small yeti, paperwork, and other personal belongings.
The goal at the moment is to get everything on that list over there without having to ship anything.
Once she is in Hawai’i she can measure the size she needs on certain items and order the rest of the essentials.
Amazon ships there as well it just takes longer than the usual two days.
As long as she has her bedding, clothes, a few school supplies, and personal items everything else can be purchased during or after quarantine.
I keep forgetting to add the mask necessity as well.
Still not used to those!
Here is the current situation. The last of the items will be packed the day before.

We are so close and I’m literally taking it one day at a time and trying to stay present in the moment.
I’ll update you are how it goes through the process.
Sidenote: Bella took the nose swab COVID test Friday and fingers crossed the results come in negative by the time she lands in Hawai’i Monday at 8:30 pm NY time.
That will be the difference between her quarantining in her dorm room with her team/roommates or solo in the hotel room.
Trusting the Universe that this all goes smoothly, my friends.
Let me know in the comments if this was helpful in your journey as well.
Have an awesome day full of Unicorns + Rainbows!
