Living Room Makeover Ideas
Not sure if you have checked out Anthropologie lately but if you haven’t you should!
Amber Lewis now has a collection with them and I LOVE so many of the pieces.
In this design there is a mix from her collection plus other goodies from the site.
So I have listened to Amber on several occasions and two things she said stood out for me in my life journey.
The first piece of advice is:
Never compare your beginning to someone else’s middle.
Amber Lewis
This is the BEST advice because it is so hard to not compare yourself to someone who is where you want to be.
The secret is to have patience.
Easier said than done I know but it is soooo important to remember.
I have to remind myself daily that a baby step every day is better than none at all.
The second piece of wisdom is:
Let me fail
Amber lewis
She made that second statement to her family when they were questioning her journey.
She believed in herself and would not listen to the Nay Sayers.
Clearly she knew what she was doing because look at her now.
She is a freaking ROCK STAR and true inspiration for me!
The Discovery
So after forty-five years of life, I have FINALLY discovered that people can’t give an opinion on what they don’t know.
So if I just keep my head down and do the work there is no noise.
That was an epiphany moment.
SO good right?!
Always remember what other people think of you is NONE of your business!
Just mind your own business, keep your mouth shut, and work harder than anyone else.
And that my friends is the life lesson I finally live by.
I always get side tracked but now back to the reason you are here!

This design has a very Cali Eclectic vibe which is suiting since that’s where Amber is from.
The neutral living room makeover uses texture, novelty touches, and gold details to add interest.
In the next section, I’ll breakdown the different categories to update your space.
The Furniture
Amber Lewis for Anthropologie Keane Slipcover Sofa
Designed by Amber Lewis in collaboration with Anthropologie, this slipcover sofa features a modern, squared silhouette that lends a tailored edge to your living space, while loose, feather-filled cushions provide the look of ease and relaxation. With a deep, sink-into-me seat and low-slung arms, this sofa is a lounge-worthy centerpiece for your abode.
We have a bench seat sofa in our home and just love it! The lines of this sofa are clean and sophisticated.
Havana Leather Chair
Crafted from luxe leather with brass-accented legs and buckled armrests, this handsome chair elevates any den, home office, or living space.
Love the details on this chair because it is super cool!
Kira Coffee Table
Featuring exaggerated oak legs contrasted against a sleek white travertine top, this coffee table provides an easygoing yet elegant statement to your living space.
The wood base softens the cold stone top on this table adding warmth and interest.
Boucle Louise Storage Ottoman
Rendered in a textured boucle with maple wood feet, this classic rounded ottoman features a plump top cushion that not only offers a comfy spot for your feet to rest, but also removes to reveal storage for magazines, throws, and other entertaining accessories.
Super cute ottoman perfect for storing blankets.
Amber Lewis for Anthropologie Caillen Side Table
From its stitched leather-wrapped legs to its metal capped accents and white oak frame, this mixed-material side table – designed by Amber Lewis in collaboration with Anthropologie – offers versatility that can accommodate a variety of interior styles.
Love the leather details on the legs of this wood table from Amber.
Lemieux et Cie Borel Side Table
A warm, sandy-hued alternative to marble, travertine stone features a distinct canvas of porous marks and swirling patterns from its calcareous layers.
Beautiful lines on this table and the size is the perfect scale.
Deluxe Tamboured Bar Cabinet
The Deluxe Tamboured collection is our most luxurious-to-date take on a decidedly 1950s, mid-century silhouette. Brass-capped marble hardware complement this bar cabinet’s exquisite tamboured rosewood doors that open to reveal ample storage for a home bar – including a wine rack, a glass rack, as well as drawer and cabinet space.
The handle detail ties back so nicely to the stone and gold touches in this design.
The Lighting
Tanner Chandelier
Glass globes resting on a contemporary wood beam structure create a chandelier design that is centerpiece-worthy for a dining room, living room, or hall.
Beautiful chandi to update your living or dining room.
Redford Sconce
This gold contemporary sconce is perfect to add next to the artwork because it will add accent lighting.
The Walls
Serendipity Shibori Wallpaper
Beautiful shibori-inspired designs offer a wall covering because it instantly transforms any space.
Great for an accent wall in your neutral living room makeover.
Running Sunset Wall Art
Pink and orange clouds fill an indigo sky in this dreamy sunset landscape.
Love the vibrant colors in this piece because it ties back to the overall color palette.
Sailor’s Mirror
Copper with cotton jute or brass with leather mirror.
Such awesome details in this mirror from Anthropologie!
Woven Taylor Striped Curtain
Handwoven stripes invite both texture and visual intrigue to this versatile curtain.
The navy stripe detail adds interest to otherwise neutral drapery panels.
The Rug
Flatwoven Porto Rug
With a light distress-inspired effect across its intricate motifs, this rug offers the look of a well-worn antique find.
The colors of this rug help pull all the design elements together.
The Decor
Amber Lewis for Anthropologie Woven Ferndale Pillow
Designed by Amber Lewis in collaboration with Anthropologie, this pillow offers an understated take on texture and muted weaves.
Love the color and texture of both of these pillows.
The Accessories
Charlie Sprout Envelope Urn
The Envelope Urn is handcrafted by artisans in eSwatini, Africa using traditional techniques and weaving skills handed down through generations of women. This unique piece is created in a fair trade environment using locally harvested sisal, eco-friendly pigments, and is crafted with gallery grade standards.
This is such a beautiful conversation piece for any space.
Tortoise Glass Vase
Inspired by vintage glass pieces, this hand-blown vase features a tortoiseshell design that adds a striking accent to any decor.
Love the colors of these vases.
Knotted Decorative Object
This is perfect on top of books or paired with two vases.
Live-Edge Bookends
These one-of-a-kind bookends showcase the curves and grain of reclaimed teak wood.
Driftwood Tray Candle
Launched in 2004 and crafted in Decatur, Georgia, Himalayan Handmade Candles started as a way for founder Julia Leaphart to reconnect with her childhood spent in the foothills of the Himalayas.
This is one of my favorite accessories in the design because it is so unique.
Jami Two-Tier Hanging Planter
This tiered hanging planter features two faceted concrete pots for a stylish way to display your favorite botanicals.
Adding plants to your space will improve air quality and reduce stress.
Where To Start
First step in the design process should be to create a floor plan.
This is the road map for your design and lets you see what will actually fit in your space.
Once you know what you are looking for you can start to source the products.
It is important to only gather up to three Pinterest images of the overall look and feel you are after.
Anything more will be overwhelming because you will be less focused.
While you may not be ready for a complete living room makeover you can still update a few pieces.
I like to start with the art, rug, or pillows because it helps to create the color palette.
This is how I like to start any design off.
Once the overall theme and color palette is established it’s easy to fill in the rest of the pieces.
The design process should be a fun experience.
If you focus on one space at a time with a plan it will be!
That’s it for this inspiring living room makeover concept.
I hope it helps you get started in your design journey.
Have a awesome day full of Unicorns and Rainbows.
xo Nicole
