The basement is usually an informal place to relax in comfort. Whether you have a family or not a finished basement is a luxury and usually the coolest spot in the house!
Typically the basement is an awesome expression of your personality or the dumping ground of free and leftover furniture. For many the old furniture from upstairs winds up in the basement after the new sofa or couch arrives.
One of the BEST basement couch styles is the modular pit sectional. You should know I’m OBSESSED with this large and in charge sofa. It’s NOT for small spaces since it’s quite massive and can be overbearing.
If you have the room then the pit sectional is the way to go! It’s literally like a huge bed at night but can be stretched out to a u-shape sofa during the day.

How do you know if a couch is too big for a room?
Before we start I can not stress enough the importance of measuring your space. Especially with the modular pit sectionals. They are huge and the size is deceiving in the furniture store.
Either do a floor plan yourself or have the store do one for you but check the size. It’s a really good idea to use blue tape to mark the size of your floor. Even better if you put boxes at the corners so you can really visualize the sofa scale.
Just to be clear I am not discouraging you from buying this large sectional BUT I want it to fit!
If it doesn’t fit in your space when it’s delivered it will be a nightmare for you, the delivery team, and the store! Just saying!

What is a modular pit sectional?
The modular pit sectional is a sofa that is designed to be moved around and rearranged. Usually, the seating sections consist of the corner and armless centerpieces. The back and arms are the same height and the seat is the same height as the ottoman.
This sectional can be configured as an L-sectional, U-sectional, 3-piece sofa, and pit sectional. Some vendors offer sectional connectors to keep the pieces together while others do not.
If you want to create a new configuration just remove the connectors.
The beauty is that the pieces can be moved around depending on your needs and they fit together perfectly.

- Read all the reviews. Anyone who took the time to add a review has something to share. Sometimes no reviews are better than bad reviews so keep that in mind as well. Reviews will help you determine any issues and how durable the sofa will be.
- Check the measurements and make a floor plan! Also, measure your doorways to make sure the sofa pieces will clear those as well. Pictures can be deceiving and even though the pieces are modular they are large. If the sectional feet are removable that is definitely a plus.
- Look at “Customer Photos”. Having a visual of the sofa in actual living spaces will help you determine the end look. If you find a customer photo on Instagram send them a DM and ask the customer how they feel about their sofa purchase.
- Note important dates on the website. Specifically, look at the “in-stock date” or “ship date”. Sofas can take anywhere from 8 weeks to ship and as much as 12 weeks to manufacture. Custom sofas are usually started after the order is placed so the process takes time.
- Review the return policy and ASK QUESTIONS before you place the order. Buying a sofa online can be scary but only if you don’t know what to expect. Each company has there own return policy so make sure you understand the terms and conditions. Many companies will charge for return shipping which can be expensive. Sometimes it’s cheaper to resell an item on your own than to pay the return fees.
