Gold Shower Systems
We are in the process of ordering all the components for our Airbnb Bathroom makeover. This post is the fourth of the Airbnb bathroom remodel series. The first post shared 5 Bathroom Design Tips You Need To Know. Then the second one was all about 11 Bathroom Vanities in Black + White You’ll Love. The third was 13 Gold Bathroom Faucets You’ll Love In 2020.
As I mentioned in the last post when choosing the gold bathroom fixtures it is super important to choose from ONE manufacturer. That was you know the metal finishes will match. If you choose from different vendors there is a chance the color will be off.
Pro Tip: Choose your fixtures from one manufacturer so the gold finish is consistent.
For our project, I really liked the look of the Delta Vero Shower set. The problem was I LOVED the Kohler Purist Widespread Bathroom Faucet. Here is where the information above comes true. The two finishes DO NOT match from Kohler and Delta. That said I had to pick one and then coordinate within the collection. If you are going silver this is less of an issue but with gold, there is yellow, champagne, and vibrant to name a few finishes. That is where the matching issue comes in.
The Faucet Selection
Once I finalized the gold faucet selection I moved on to the best gold shower systems for our makeover. I learned that since gold is not super popular in the Purist collection EVERYTHING is freaking sold SEPARATELY. That added to the cost. I was not happy about that. The ROI on this bathroom will be high so we decided to cut back on the lighting plus other areas and put the cost into the fixtures. It’s much easier to change the lights later than it is to update the plumbing and fixtures.
My original thought was to just purchase a showerhead-style fixture. The KOHLER TS14422-3-BGD Purist Rite-Temp Shower Valve Trim with Cross Handle would have only cost us $541.73. After speaking to the rep at Ferguson she brought up a good point. She asked if we are adding a handheld shower set. I said no and she asked, “How are you cleaning the shower?” UGG so true. In my home, the kid’s bathroom has a handheld set. It’s so much easier to clean than the other showers. For the ones without the handheld, I use a bucket which is annoying.
Pro Tip: Think about How you will be cleaning the Shower when choosing your Gold Shower Systems
Since the Airbnb shower will be 32-33″ wide we are not going to use a showerhead and handheld. We will just use the handheld on the bar so the height can be adjusted.
If I was still into silver I could have just purchased the Kohler Purist Pressure Balanced Shower System with Shower Head, Hand Shower, Valve Trim, and Shower Arm for $1304.01. No such luck! So below is exactly what we ordered.
Our Gold Shower System
1. Purist Balancing Valve Trim with Cross Handles K-T14501-3-BGD
Number (1) on the image below is the shower set. The valve is sold separately to use with the handheld. If we used both the showerhead and handheld we would have needed the Kohler Purist Single Handle Diverter Valve Trim K-T14491-3-BGD. Plus you need the Two Way or Three-Way configurable Diverter Valve K-737-K-NA. Again we have to cut costs somewhere and this is a narrow shower that does not need the full shower system on the wall. The plan is to move the shower valve to the opposite wall so the temperature can be adjusted before entering the shower.
2. Rite-Temp Pressure Balanced Valve Body and Cartridge Kit with Service Stops K-8304-KS-NA
Not shown in the image below so I’ve included the visual. I was told by purchasing the service stop version of this part it can be fixed easier if there are issues. I was told the repair could be make from the valve not behind the wall.
3. Shower Shower Bar K-8524-BGD
Number (2) on the image below. The bar is adjustable and it tilts. The original plan was to have the freestanding grid door but since the showerhead is NOT a rain-style we are probably putting full grid doors. More on that in a future post.
4. Traditional Basic Slidebar Trim Kit K-974-BGD
Number (3) on the image below. Yes, this is sold separately. It is the finish trim for the bar.
5. Purist Handshower K-978-BGD
Number (5) on the image below. We chose this handheld which measures about 5″ which is the size of the one we have in our guest bath. My Ferguson rep mentioned the larger the shower head the less pressure so keep that in mind. If you are doing the complete shower system you can choose Number (4) below which has a slimmer more contemporary look. For just the handheld the slim stick option is too skimpy.
Pro Tip: The larger the shower head the less pressure.
6. Shower Hose K-9514-BGD
Number (5) on the image below. The hose connects between Number (5) your handheld and Number (7) the elbow. If you did not go with the bar you could also use Number (6, 7, + 8) but the handheld is NOT adjustable. I did order Number (8) in case but the tilt on the bar at the side is good so I’m returning the wall mount holder. If you want a cleaner look and have the shower head you can use the wall mount.
7. Wall-Mount Supply Elbow K-976-BGD
Number (7) on the image below. This is attached to the wall and connects to the hose. You need this if you choose to use the bar (2) or the wall mount (8).
8. Shower Drain K-9136-BGD
Number (10) on the image below. This drain works with tile where Number (11) is for a shower pan. I know so much to know. We went with the square version but the round is 9135-BGD Tile-in Round Shower Drain.
For EVERYTHING above we paid $1019.59 for the Handheld Wall Bar Shower System + $ 595.15 for the Faucet.
The TOTAL for ALL shower fixtures was $1614.74

The image above shows what we purchase and the options I looked at from other manufacturers. If you just need the shower head those are above. Then I also shared the sets from other vendors I considered. Again for our wall, we are NOT adding the shower head because it will be too busy.
I literally just took a deep breath remembering all I learned while shopping for our shower system. It’s enough information to make your head spin. This is part of the reason I’ve stayed away from bathrooms for clients. I needed to give myself the time to get educated.
Design is such a process but with the right experts in your corner sharing their knowledge and expertise you can create a bathroom you LOVE!
Hope this helped in your bathroom remodel journey!
Have an amazing day full of Unicorns & Rainbows!
