Bathroom Vanities
When it comes to your bathroom design the vanity is one of the most important selections to be made. Often it is the largest piece in the bathroom and the focal point.
We learned the hard way the importance of investing in a quality bathroom vanity. If you don’t in about ten or so years you’ll start to see the wear and tear.
When it comes to bathroom vanities there are so many styles, colors, and materials to choose from. They also come in every price point imaginable from budget to high-end.
This roundup features a variety of vanity styles no matter your budget. By now you should know I am all about “pretty things” and do not discriminate by price point.

Modern Bathroom Vanities
This post is part two of the Willow House Airbnb bathroom makeover. You can read the Bathroom Design Tips in part one of the series.
We did not actually plan to demo and design the first-floor bathroom. To make a long story short after being in our home since 1998 the time finally came to makeover the first-floor bathroom.
When we remodeled Willow House back in 2005 we actually skipped this bathroom. At the time it was the best part of the house. We also just had to stop somewhere in the budget.
If you have done a remodel you know the line you hear constantly “for an extra $$$ you can add XYZ”. Adding to your existing remodel is less expensive than a second phase but at some point, you have to draw the line.
For us, this bathroom was where we stopped.
Fast forward to today from the Airbnb usage, it was time for a bathroom remodel.
How To Choose The Best Bathroom Vanities
Before I share the options here are things to consider when selecting your vanity.
1. Bathroom Vanity Style
When choosing the look you will want to think about which design style you are going for. Is your vibe Contemporary, Transitional, Modern, Farmhouse, Scandinavian, Traditional, Art Deco, to name a few?
Will your vanity be custom or ready-made, freestanding or built-in, floor or wall-mount?
You also need to think about the material. Do you prefer natural wood, painted wood, lacquer, metal, etc.?
Do you want the draws to be centered or offset?
I know so many to choose from.
We decided on the Avanity Brooks White Bathroom Free Standing Vanity with centered draws in our project.
2. Size
You will want to do a floor plan to decide on the size you need. If this is for a remodel measure your existing vanity if you just want to replace it.
Standard vanity dimensions are typically between 18″ – 72″ wide, depending on how many sinks you have. The vanity standard depth is typically around 20″, but narrower options are available. The standard vanity height is 32″, but ranges from 30″ – 36″.
Our existing vanity was 54″ but we changed it to the Avanity Brooks 42″ White Bathroom Free Standing Vanity.
3. Color
This post is all about black and white bathroom vanities but there are so many other colors to choose from. For our remodel we wanted to go timeless so we stayed neutral.
Since grey is at the end of its 10-year life cycle think twice about going gray unless you love it. It may look dated in a few years so be warned.
We decided on white even though I LOVE black. The main reason was the price. I did not find a black vanity I loved for under $1000 so we went with white.
4. Counter Top
Here is another area with many choices. You can find sets that include the vanity and countertop sold together but then you are locked into the sink and faucet holes that they give you.
Some material options for countertops are granite, marble (stains easy), quartz, wood, concrete, and solid surface. The finish of the countertop can be polished, honed, brushed, or lacquered.
You will also need to specify the edge detail and thickness (3/4″ or 1 1/4″). Additionally the overhang dimension over the cabinet edge (1/4″, 1/2″, 1″, etc.)
We chose a white quartz countertop with three faucet holes.
I thought about the black countertop set option but I did not like the small oval sink so it was out. The fabricator for the countertop we purchased was recommended by Nash Stone Group.
5. Sink Style
Another area with many choices is your sink base. The shape can be round, oval, or rectangular. The basin can be wall-mounted, framed, drop-in, under-mount, vessel, or pedestal.
We chose a contemporary under-mount rectangular style for the Airbnb project in white to match the quartz.
6. Faucet
There are many options when it comes to faucets. This tends to be an area I like to splurge on because I consider it the jewelry of the room (along with the lighting).
When making your selection you’ll want to know if you will use a widespread, center-set, single-lever, wall-mounted, or vessel faucet.
For the Willow House Airbnb, we chose a 2-handle widespread sink faucet for 8 inches – 16 inches centers in gold.
7. Hardware
Lastly, we will talk about the hardware which you may think is easy but nope options here too! The style of the hardware can change the look and feel of your bathroom so it matters.
You can go straight for a contemporary modern look or curved for a transitional traditional look.
Hardware materials can be metal, wood, stone, even leather. Colors can be silver, gold, black, etc. There are matte, polished, brushed, and textured finished. Yup I know… crazy choices.
We selected the black and gold brass handles from Etsy which are super pretty. They will help tie all the colors back to the vanity since it’s white.
Now that you know all your choices it will make it easier to know what you are looking for when sourcing bathroom vanities.
This is the vanity we selected for our modern bathroom makeover.
In a comment online a customer said their pipes had to be moved up but we did not have that issue. Here is how the finished vanity looks in our bathroom.
We did change the sink drain p-trap to gold since it was exposed. Typically this is silver but to match the fixtures in our bathroom we went with the brass sink drain instead.
As you can see it came out fabulous and we are so happy with the result. If you are interested in learning more head to Bathroom Remodel Before And After Cost In 2021.
Black and White Bathroom Vanities
1. White Vanity Cabinet | 2. Free Standing Vanity Set | 3. Single Sink Vanity | 4. Solid Wood Bathroom Vanity | 5. Black 9 Drawer Vanity | 6. Mid-Century Single Bathroom Vanity | 7. Black Single Vanity Cabinet | 8. Margot Single Bathroom Vanity | 9. Regency Single Bathroom Vanity | 10. Black Bathroom Vanity | 11. Wall Mount Vanity
Above are some of the other bathroom vanities we looked at while sourcing. They are from a variety of vendors and price points.
I went with the first white vanity #1 because I wanted a square under-mount sink. The oval sink the set comes with had more of a transition vibe.
Since I was after a modern look the square shape with a three-hole faucet worked better for me. I also wanted a quartz top and many sets come with a marble countertop.
Marble tends to stain and since this is for an Airbnb I wanted a more maintenance-free material.
If you don’t mind the oval shape and prefer a set go with option #2 from Build.com. You have a choice of four colorways so I’m sure one is perfect for you!
3. Single Sink Vanity
As mentioned in the best of #3 is a fabulous modern choice from Pottery barn which is a little surprising. Most people think traditional and transitional for Pottery Barn but they do have some modern vanities too.
I love the mixed material and colorway of this vanity but at the end of the day, we needed storage. If this was just a power room I would have totally considered this vanity as a contender.
The Amazon vanity #4 and #5 are great if you need a lot of storage.
Available in a white or black colorway you may have a hard time choosing between the two. For our purpose, we did not need this much storage which is why we ultimately passed.
Either one of these modern white and gold vanities will look fabulous in your contemporary home. The West Elm style has a drawer for storage as well as the area behind the doors.
Again if storage is not a concern this Anthropologie beauty is an awesome option to update your bathroom design.
Here are two more white and gold vanities to choose from. The Anthropologie beauty is great for all my fashionistas. It features lucite details on both the handles and legs.
The sink is square with three holes which is exactly what we have in our modern bathroom design.
I am a fan of both freestanding toilets and vanities but will use that style in a future design. If you are looking for a modern design and are a neat freak this style is awesome for cleaning purposes.
Last up is these two black bathroom vanities that are great for a modern vibe.
The Build.com style is almost exact to the vanity cabinet we chose but in a black colorway. I also love that the handles are already gold because mine came with silver handles.
If you need storage the Amazon vanity has six drawers and two doors that open for larger items.
This piece is perfect if you have small children because each child can get a drawer of their own. It will give them a sense of privacy and personal space which is always a good thing.
And that’s a wrap, my friends!
I hope you found this information helpful for your bathroom design project. This is meant to give you ideas and inspiration all in one convenient spot.
Have an awesome day full of Unicorns and Rainbows!
